[Maia-users] clamd death spiral

Hi,

I know this might not be the right place for this, but I'm betting a lot 
of people here use clamd with amavisd-maia.

This afternoon, clamd died on both of our mail relays. 

Amavis was reporting:

Apr 11 16:05:05 hector.clarku.edu amavis[9012]: (09012-04-3) Clam 
Antivirus-clamd av-scanner FAILED: Too many retries to talk to 
127.0.0.1:3310 (Can't connect to INET socket 127.0.0.1:3310: Connection 
refused) at (eval 53) line 257.


So, I restarted clamd... should be simple enough to fix...

but I get this now:

Apr 11 17:01:29 ajax.clarku.edu amavis[23201]: (23201-01-8) ask_av (Clam 
Antivirus-clamd) FAILED - unexpected result: 
/var/amavisd/amavis-20070411T170117-23201/parts: lstat() failed. ERROR\n

I had to switch over to clamscan which is sooooooooo much slower then 
clamd.  Any thoughts anyone as to what went horribly wrong?
