No, it's not a bug.  You can't just add an arbitrary column to a table
in the Maia database and expect Maia to know what to do with it.  As far
as Maia is concerned, you just added a column called "foo_bar"--it knows
nothing about it, so of course it cannot offer you an appropriate GUI
item for it.
