I have been able to fix this by linking the address in question to
another account. But it still leaves me with no way to bulk-unlink
addresses, because just removing it from the users table (as previously
suggested here) causes this problem to occur. (I suspect that people who
have successfully used that technique did not have auto-create enabled).
The users list in the system administrative page no longer works at all;
when I click "Users", it hangs with the hour glass for about a minute,
then simply exits with no error or anything, I'm still on the main
system administration page. That is why I need to script the removal of
an address somehow. For now, I'm just linking all the addresses that
people want removed from their accounts to my account, but the list of
linked addresses is growing rather long and I'm afraid I'll bump into a
limit at some point and bring the whole thing crashing down.
