From rjl at renaissoft.com Fri Jan 5 02:07:40 2007 From: rjl at renaissoft.com (Robert LeBlanc) Date: Fri, 05 Jan 2007 02:07:40 -0800 Subject: [Maia-announce] Happy New Year: Maia 1.0.2 has been released! Message-ID: <459E236C.8060500@renaissoft.com> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 It's been far too long since the last Maia release, but at least this one follows the informal Maia tradition of releasing around New Years. Had it not been for some trouble with some server hardware over the holidays, this release might actually have gone out on January 1st, but better a little late than never, right? The 1.0.2 release is largely a maintenance release of the 1.0.x series, rather than the feature-packed 1.1.x series coming up next, but that's not to say that 1.0.2 is without some new treats. As you can see in the ChangeLog , it introduces theme management tools, wildcards for whitelists and blacklists, a 'Resend' button for non-spam items, more complete inheritance of default settings for new users, more efficient SQL queries to speed up the web interface, and a new multi-purpose database utility script to let administrators perform Bayes/AWL maintenance, add/remove users and domains in bulk, and more. Besides the obligatory collection of bug fixes aimed at making 1.0.2 the most stable version of Maia Mailguard to date, it also works well with the latest versions of apps like SpamAssassin, Crypt::CBC, and PostgreSQL. Is it perfect, though? No; despite our best intentions and efforts, we couldn't pack everything we wanted to into 1.0.2. There were so many really powerful new features I was just itching to add to 1.0.2, but almost all of them would have required significant changes to the database structure and that would have risked destabilizing the 1.0.x line. Ultimately cooler heads prevailed, and those features got bumped up to the 1.1.x series, where they properly belong. I'm sorry, then, if your favourite pet feature enhancement didn't make it into 1.0.2, but rest assured that 1.1.0 is not too far off, with some large commits already taking place in the svn trunk. In the meantime, 1.0.2 is the safe, reliable way to go, with no changes to the database structure, making it an easy upgrade from 1.0.1--just replace the PHP and Perl scripts, amavisd-maia, and edit the log settings in your config.php to match the new ones in config.php.dist. Here's wishing all of you a great year in 2007, and thank you for all the feedback, suggestions, bug reports, and support over the past few years. This should be an exciting year for Maia Mailguard, and we're glad to have you along for the ride! - -- Robert LeBlanc Renaissoft, Inc.
